Numerical Investigation on the Ventilated Supercavity around a Body under Free Surface Effect

Reducing vessel resistance by using ventilated cavities has been a highly researched topic in the marine industry. There is limited literature on supercavities near free surface, which indicates that their dynamic behavior more complex than conventional due to effect of surface. This paper employs numerical simulations study supercavity, taking into account Numerical can predict gas leakage behaviors, cavity geometry, and internal flow structures. The influence surface shortens length increases diameter. presence mainly changes vertical velocity distribution between cavity. results show there are two typical mechanisms under different immersion depths: twin-vortex tube mode re-entrant jet mode. field supercavity classified three regions: boundary layer, ventilation region, reverse region. As distance decreases, affected both gravity effect.
